The Island Shotokan Karate Association offers training in traditional Shotokan Karate-Do, which emphasizes strong stances and precise techniques. Practice consists of training in kihon (basics), kata (forms), and kumite (sparring). Kata are choreographed sequences of techniques against imaginary opponents. All sparring is non-contact or light contact.

Sensei K.Jayanendiran

The Island Shotokan Karate Association offers training in Shotokan karate. We are affiliated with the International Shotokan Karate Martial Arts ( Doha Qatar), Jaffna district karate association and Shotokan Karate Academy a world-wide organization dedicated to encourage the growth and development of traditional Shotokan karate.

Our instructor is Sensei K.Jayanendiran, 5th dan. Sensei K.Jayanendiran. founded the club as a Sri Lanka Student. He is a graduate of Sensei D.Anto Denesh M.T.Sk (advanced) instructor courses, and also trains regularly with Sensei Shuhaib Mohammed at Doha Qatar. In addition, he is a I.S.K.A-certified class  instructor, and class tournament judge, and class  examiner. Senior students will provide occasional instruction while Sensei K.Jayanendiran is unavailable or away
